iOS Comics App Combo

I am loving using Voxel - it has charm, innocence and a kind of non-maths-y approach to making 3D retro block shapes that I am getting a real kick out of.

Here are some feature requests I have just emailed to the maker(s):

  • some copy and paste system for transferring shapes in and out of the scene, say ‘actors’ or objects like trees or buildings that I might use later. Currently Intaglio supports a really useful library system for speeding up this kind of process.
  • a more precise movement system that can be used to move in and out of corners of a scene without risking deleting or recolouring items. Currently you have to rely on being a little clever to get in and out of complex areas of a scene without mucking things up.
  • obviously - a reliable ad workable photo-export system that enables fuller resolution (ie at least retina) without having the HUD encroaching. Currently this isn’t working (although they say that there is a 1.42 update coming). To be able to export hi-res images for print-related projects would be most useful.
  • some sort of widespread immediate colour-shift system to change the whole scene without needing to recolour bit by bit.
  • a light movement system?

Compared to iTracer HD i prefer Voxel because it has a simple charm that isn’t all maths-y and complex. You also have a better wysiwyg system (yes I know it is simpler imagery, but for me it is streets ahead in terms of usability).

Oh fabulous. I just discovered that an app called Voxel which is pretty simple for 3d block building on the iPhone can export ‘OBJ’ files which can then be brought into Photoshop CS5 as a 3d layer for further polishing. It seems to work pretty well so far.
